I use the same system for DD's as have been stung once too often by them taking the money early. So I only pay the minimum on DD and pay the rest when I know I've got it.
This generally happens on bank holidays etc. if the payment due is on a bank holiday, they take it on a Friday etc. They don't seem to think this is any inconvenience.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

In my experience direct debits have always been taken on the next working day if the dd date was a holiday - I setup to pay the entire balance so it then become the cc's responsibility to call the payment.0

I assume you have a Capital One or JL card then?gilligansyle wrote: »This generally happens on bank holidays etc. if the payment due is on a bank holiday, they take it on a Friday etc. They don't seem to think this is any inconvenience.
If not, which cards are you talking about?0 -
The only reason they were probably quite patronising( not saying they should have been) is because I can imagine so many people make the mistake once, get away with it, but then do it again and again expecting the charge to be refunded every single time which then makes it a nightmmare for customers who genuinely make a mistakeOriginally Posted by Dr Cuckoo3

One was cap one, the other was Monument - thankfully now gone - as is the reason for needing to use these horrendous cards in the first place.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

As you mention Capital One above.....
You were not stung, but you did fail to read that the DD will be taken on **/**/** (insert exact date) as it clearly states on the statement. That date differs from the payment due date which is also clearly stated.
It also clearly states the DD will be taken on/within 3 days, that 3 days corrulates exactly with the date example above.
Always best to read what's on your statement !0 -
Just a word of caution about setting up a DD or SO to pay your credit card so you don't incur a late payment fee - I did this and they changed the flippin payment date
I now have a SO for the 1st of every month for a minimal amount that I know will always cover my minimum payment required so that they get a payment each month and do online banking for the rest. I try to set it up when the statement arrives but with a forward date to the match the required date.
If I forget I at least know they have had the one payment.
It is the Credit card organisation who have responsibility for collecting payment when using a DD rather than you sending payment, therefore it is impossible to get a late payment charge when using a DD in this way.
S/O's however are very different and the onus is on you to send payment and are never a good option when dealing with cards as statement cycles usually operate in cycles meaning the payment date can regularly chage.0
