Question about Boilers

I've read a lot of useful topics about boilers on this forum - and am wondering if anyone can help me with my specific problem.
Our boiler is on the blink - I think it is quite old... and my other half says that it is illegal for us to get it repaired. Does anyone know if this is true? I am fully conversant with the Buidling Regulations and issues surrounding a replacement boiler, but hadn't heard anything about replacing them.
What is happening is that the pilot light comes on when the timer says it should but the boiler either doesn't come on at all or sporadically switches itself on and off. Net result, no hot water!
Thanks in advance for any advice/help.

Illegal to repair it ? Thats a new one on me unless its been condemned as unsafe by British Gas or a corgi engineer.
You may be able to get it repaired, it depends on whether spares are available or not.
I suspect your other half may be getting confused on what can and cannot be fitted as a replacement i.e. Condensing or non condensig depending on your situation.0 -
Our plumber says the old boilers are the best, no fancy electronics to go wrong. I think the only problems we have ever had with our 15+ year old boiler is a thermocouple burning out. If you're in the Birmingham area, I can send you his details.Fiscal drag, that's my problem. Too many people dragging on my fiscals.0

If you post the make & model of your boiler someone on the forum will be able to tell you if parts are readily available for it!0
