White meter electric -Time switch 12 hours out
We have a White Meter electric setup.
Mechanical time switch set to give 10 hours cheap rate between 9pm-7am, switching the electric meter between Low & Normal rates.
All the electric supply is switched, not just one circuit (as in a storage heater circuit).
We must have had this old mechanical time switch for 30+ years.
But the time switch is now 12 hours out, with power cuts over the years, so it is giving cheap rate electricity during the day.
Overall it would not matter with our usage.
But during winter we use an electric heater in the greenhouse at night, so this costs much more, as it is being charged at normal rate, as the time switch is out.
Nowadays Economy 7 tariffs only give 7 hours cheap rate between around 11/12pm to 7am.
If we call our electric company and ask them to adjust the old mechnical time switch, will they want to replace it with a 7 hour time switch setup or will they adjust old one so we keep 10 hours cheap rate ??
What do you think ??

I have come across a similar situation about a year ago and the engineer was firm that with any faults on switching equipment like this, the timer is always replaced with a radio receiver. The radio receiver then switches on and off at times the electric company determines, so you get exactly what you signed up for.0
