AA Internet Saver query

I've received the welcome pack from AArequesting proof of ID. This in itself is not a problem, but in this day and age of electonic ID verification (and the fact I've not had any for other non-AA accounts), I just found it unusual.
Did everyone who have applied for this account had to supply ID documention?
Also regarding the initial opening deposit by cheque, I gather I could just send a cheque for say £10, despite indicating a larger 'expected amount to deposit' at the end of the application process online?
Thanks.

Hi,
I have opened up two AA accounts, one quite recently and have never been asked for ID information. However I know people who have had to provide ID.
It is to do with mone laundering and teh banks ensuring you are legitimate etc.
All banks need to check and proove who you are. They use a variety of checks elecronically -
They check council for where you live i.e electoral register, they do a quick nosey on your credit file etc.
if the bank cannot get the information that they need to ensure you are who you say you are, they will ask for extra ID.
You may have had a few address or not be on a specific register that they might check.
No big deal really. I have been fortunate enough to only have had to do this once with the HALIFAX............
I have just enquired about a savings account and this message was outlined which yo umay find of use -
When you open an account we are required by law to confirm your identity. We will seek to validate your identity and residency using an online search facility when you apply for the account. If this fails to provide us with the level of proof we require, we will ask you to provide proof of identity and/or address.:rotfl:0 -
Hi
I've just opened an account with the aa and had the same pack requesting id.
About the deposit, that's what I've done, I've sent a cheque for the minimum then when it's open I'll transfer over the balance.0 -
Not a big deal I agree, but more of an inconvenience really - though I understand the need for it.
Just surprised me, as I've been 'electronically verified' in the past with other providers.0 -
Opened an AA acount for the first time and was not asked for additional Id, yet have been asked for Id before when opening a 2nd account from banks I already have accounts with0
