I`m really sorry I bought this now, as its causing me no end of confusion and grief. funny how they don`t tell you about reformatting etc.
Sorry to go on, but what you are saying is - if we want to put the pictures etc onto the laptop then we will have to reformat the memory card? I will research the manual to see what it says, would print it but its 179 pages long.
Thanks macman.
The manual will be on the CD that comes on the box, just find the section you want and print those pages...
Once you've copied the files onto your laptop then you will need to free up space to save new files, reformatting is quicker than deleting images one by one.
This is basically the same procedure as on any digital camera, nothing unique to Panasonic. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks all, daughter had loaded CD onto her laptop - I just assumed it was to transfer the photo`s etc over.. I have asked her to look. I have also printed off the pages of the manual we think we will need and am going thru it step by step tomorrow.0

Katies mum,
You have a great camera for taking photos and good quality video (for a dual purpose device). I have a TZ6 and have been surprised at how good the video and sound quality is. If you don't want to fiddle too much then for most photographs use the iA (intelligent auto) setting.
If you ever need to format a memory card put switch to camera, switch on then push the menu button, select the spanner icon to enter set up, scroll down to format and bobs your uncle.
There's no substitute for reading the manual I'm afraid.
