Rant - advertising prices and extra costs

Anyone else tried to book holiday online only to find final price increased by nearly 30% without explanation or breakdown of price.
Lakes & Mountains 3 night HB Austria advertised £104. First, price to be increased by £2/night single room WC private balcony Total £110(Still good price). Then when you go to fill in your name etc the price jumps to £141.94 WITHOUT giving a reason or further breakdown.
The travel company rang back, but could not give an explanation.
I have complained - still waiting (13/7) + notified Abta
From memory I thought some watchdog had stopped this sort of thing.
