Follow the above link and it will take you to the facebook page of the Devere Shaw ridge in Swindon. Some time ago they started this trend of charging only £1 to for the first nights stay in their hotel when the service personnel have just come back from detachment/deployment. It looks like it has been rolled out across the country now which is great. I had no idea about this offer and I am a leisure club member there!

It also applies to families of bereaved...

The Welcome Home for Heroes package which was launched at Shaw Ridge which offers our military forces an exclusive offer to stay with us for just £1 per room per night has been expanded to the other 24 De Vere Venues.

The offer is open to all military personnel returning from an operational tour of duty and it is also available to unit rear party personnel, who undertake the critical role of supporting families whilst their loved ones are away, bereaved families, casualty notifying officers and visiting officers, who support those families that have lost loved ones while serving their country.

It is something we started here at Shaw Ridge some time ago because of our repatriation ceremonies in Wootton Bassett. A lot of people have to travel from all parts of the country to be in Wiltshire at some considerable expense to themselves.

We wanted to do our bit and to charge people just £1 for their first night seemed to be a good idea. We’re glad this has been picked up by HQ.

It’s also good for the armed services to have a break and with 25 major UK venues participating, including Wychwood Park near Crewe, Barony Castle near Edinburgh and Wokefield Park in Berkshire, the hotels will provide the perfect getaway for relaxing accommodation, beautiful grounds, a host of different leisure facilities and award winning restaurants.

De Vere has also partnered with Keep it Hush, a hospitality and shopping website, to make the offer accessible to forces personnel.

Richard Balfour-Lynn, chief executive of the Alternative Hotel Group, which owns De Vere Venues said: “The ‘Welcome Home for Heroes’ initiative represents a small token of the Alternative Hotel Group’s gratitude for the valiant work undertaken by our armed forces.

“We are delighted to be able to offer our returning military personnel and their families a night at a De Vere Venue of their choice to say thank you.”

And Tony Dangerfield, chief executive of De Vere Venues, added: “We estimate that there will be in the region of 20,000 military personnel returning from duty to the UK over the coming year.

“By extending this offer to the families of our returning heroes, this initiative reflects our commitment and support for our armed forces.”

Col Bob Fram, assistant director Army Welfare said: “This generous offer provides an opportunity for a well-earned break for those who have been deployed on operations, those who support the families who are left behind and those who look after the families of our casualties.”

As I use this hotel and live in Wootton Bassett and had no idea about this offer I assume that others are not aware of it either so I do hope that some people get some use out of it. I am certainly planning on doing this when my Hubby comes back in September...

We've just spent a week in De Vere New Place (Southampton) and used the £1 a night offer for the last night. Was very easy to book and they were very accomodating. Just check if you are booking an adapted room and taking the family that it is big enough for a wheelchair to get into with the extra beds! Hubby was VSI in afghan last year and so we were using the break to get away over the anniversary with our children when we got there he couldn't get past the bathroom into the bedroom because of the huuuge bed, single bed and cot!!lol They were very good though and found us adjoining rooms for the same price-he just struggled taking a shower for the week!:rotfl:

ok thats great, but i cant get into the site without registering, I just tried to register and it says I need an invitation code!!
  • How do you get the invitation code for keepithush.com?
  • Hi everyone just to confirm this is true!! As me and my hubby had a well deserved night away at the devere on tues night for a £1 it was bliss, as its room only we paid £5 each for breakfast so it came to £11 all in all for the night, and we made full use of the free sauna, gym, pool, and jacuzzi on offer!
  • I emailed them as we want to take this offer up but not til the new year, and they confirmed it didnt need to be taken up as soon as they get back from tour, but can be deferred for a while (didnt specify how long).
  • Good on you DeVere. I shall make use of this when I get back.
