Help with Home & Contents Flood

My house has a river at the bottom of my garden. The river flooded the garden once in 1966 and the resident claimed on their insurance for their garage contents. Luckily the house itself is raised over a metre up from the garden and as far as we're aware the house never flooded.
It's causing an issue when I come to get house insurance. Do I have to state that it flooded? It makes a huge difference to the price of and the amount of insurers willing to quote, around £400 more.
