Churchill car insurance renewal

My Churchill car insurance renewal notice came through so I shopped around for best prices. Phoned Churchill up to discuss renenwal prices as had found much cheaper prices from other providers online. Best Churchilll could do was to include free basic breakdown cover on the policy, as that was worth more than any loyalty discount they could apply and they couldn't match online prices from other providers. The price was still more expensive than cheapest quote I had found - which was from LV insurance. I then went to Churchill online, entered my details as a new customer and quote was £85 cheaper than the best quote they'd given me as a long time customer. Rang Churchill up and they said straight away that they would match their online new customer price! I'm not going to renew with them as it's still not as good a deal as with LV car insurance where I can get full breakdown cover with my insurance policy for the same price. Just posting this info in case this helps out any other people wanting to renew with Churchill.

I've just let my policy lapse with Churchill as they wouldn't price match my quote from LV either. Churchill did offer me a discount but it was still £42 more expensive than LV, you would have thought they'd be prepared to price match rather than lose a customer altogether. I'm getting £20 cashback from Topcashback for going to LV too :)

This is common practice with most insurers. They will give you a good price on Year 1 to get your business and hope that lethargy will stop you from shopping round in Year 2.

You will probably find the same thing happens with your new insurer next year.

Personally, I shop round for every policy renewal which generally means I am never with the same insurer two years running.
