Which Sat nav? NavMan ICN330 or GARMIN I3

Which Sat nav? NavMan ICN330 or GARMIN I3 shoudl I go for?

Total newbie , never used a sat nav before.

Can you update the maps on the NavMan ICN330 and GARMIN I3?

Do they show the safety cameras as standard or can you upload them?

What happens if you don't know the post code of the place you want to get to?

Any other advice on what to look for?

jawa, for an entry level SatNav I have no hestitation in recommending the Garmin i3. It is by far the best value for money you could get. The maps are updatable almost on yearly basis but you'll have to pay good money for the updates (this applies to whichever SatNav you choose). You'll usually have to install the speedcam database yourself but that is not very difficult (costs 2 quid per download from pocketgpsworld.com). Finally if you don't know the postcode then you can always use the original method of search with house number, street name and city. You can find further details and answers to all your questions on the fora in https://www.pocketgpsworld.com

    Hope this helps.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

Another vote for the Garmin. I think it's small size is a real plus when you need to remove it an have to carry it around. It seems a very capable little thing and a bargain at under 100 pounds.

I unfortunately doubt that it is still available for under 100 pounds even on eBay.

When i bought my i3 about a year ago i updated the speedcams from a free website. Would not have paid for it. I keep meaning to upload the latest set so when i get round to it i'll post the site here. I have some new cameras in my area so will have a good idea of how up to date the info is. Although it was good last time as it included cameras that werent active at that point.

    Update:

Having checked my links it was pocketgpsworld.com i was downloading from and they now charge !!!

Will be hunting down a new camera to get the free subscription.

Is there a way to view the route you will be taken on your PC?

E.g If I go from MyHouse to the local chipshop I want to check the route on my PC before I set off so I know I am going the best way.

There is a View Turns facility, which does what it says... Or you can choose to play the route, but it takes the same time as you would have taken in the car, which is a bit self-defeating.
