EIGHTEEEN pound to change my address over the phone.

Online free of charge.

This isn't an extra cost on my policy for a different postcode, its simply an Admin charge for the advisor to modify my address on the system.

By the time i'd argued with him he could have done it x10 times over.

So I pay to call up, queue for 15 minutes, then pay £18.

Once I move to new address once house purchase is ready another £18!

This is worse than the bank charge scandal!

Did they tell you of the charge before you did it?If so, why not just say "bye bye" and do it online for free?

One of the many reasons I changed my commercial insurance to someone else was this, they matched the price of the other company I eventually used, but as I knew I was moving a few months after the insurance was taken out I refused their cover. Plus the fact its taken them 4+ years to sort an insurance claim out, awful customer service!

I also fell into that trap. 11 months into my policy, just moved house, EVERY SINGLE OTHER supplier etc has changed my address on their records for free but SHEILAS WHEELS charged me £26 for the change!!!

How do they justify it?? I will certainly be changing insurer next month and will read the policy more carefully this time...

i hung up in the end!

Now trying to do it online and can't remember my username/password etc

We debated it for 10 minutes, he could have changed it in 1 minute.

If I don't change it and need to claim they'll be charging me again for false records!

    £26 @ sheila's wheels ouch.

I think Martin needs to look into this money making con

Wouldn't say worse than bank charges, but have they changed your base premium as you move...

Most companies have admin charges and it is difficult to avoid.

Most companies don't charge them, I changed address recently with about 20 different companies, none charged a penny, its basically a rip off by these companies that do charge, I can understand a company that has got do work external from the computer like sky or BT et al to get your services running.

Amusing, £18 admin charge for 5 minutes time of some call centre employee who is paid £6 an hour. All those admin charges you'd think the call centre workers were on £180 an hour.

*IF* it is an admin charge, it should reflect the cost of that admin - i.e. a quid or two.

OTOH if it is significantly more than cost it is obviously designed to make money.

They are in business to make money. The company reduce their premiums to be competitive then make a bit on charges. It costs to run an office and employ people to update records post new documents etc.

This is not news. Some charge more than others and maybe you will take this in to account when you change insurers.

Indeed, blame the likes of comparethemarket etc, insurers have cut service standards to compete.

Even MSE has encouraged using the cheapest insurers, instead of comparing service standards.

Since having your insurance cover may only be fully legal if you register it at the correct address, I wonder what the insurance regulator would make of this charge. Anyway, the lost goodwill will cost Aviva far more now.
