I had a wonderful surprise yesterday my Staywarm contract is about to end and at the moment I pay £70 a month total for gas and electricity use as much as you like and it stays the same for 1 year. Well with the bad winter we had, I had my central heating on quite a lot, also I retired a year ago which means I am home more, so I was expecting my payments to go up. My new contract which starts August 2010 remains the same, fantastic !!! so taking into account my £250 Winter heating allowance it works out £11.34 a week total for the Gas and Electric, needless to say I am delighted.

    Are you sure?
£589pa for both gas and electricity seems ludicrously low, especially if the properrty is occupied all day.
What are your actual consumption figures?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Sounds to me like you were probably vastly overpaying the year before then...
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

Well my first year with Staywarm was £60 a month. Then to renew the contract for year two, it went up to £70 a month, and year three which starts the end of August 2010 remains the same £70 a month. You may be right about me overpaying when I have my usage figures for last year I will be checking it out, but to be honest for the peace of mind I have regarding being able to have control of my payments and no massive winter bills or being so worried about the heating costs that it would leave me being cold it would have to be a really big difference for me to even consider a change from my current plan.

    Hi viv

Good news on your Staywarm renewal.

As you say, Staywarm is about peace of mind. It gives the flexibility of using additional heating during exceptional weather without the worry of an unexpected bill.

You're also absolutely correct about being able to use as much energy as you like for the same monthly payment throughout the term of the agreement.

However, future renewals will be based on ongoing usage so it is still important to keep an eye on what you are consuming.

Given there is no change in your monthly payments, you are obviously already doing this very effectively.

If you are ever in need of advice with this, part of the deal with Staywarm is the offer of help with energy efficiency measures. This includes the possible availability of certain free products to better insulate your property. Give us a call if you feel you might benefit from this sort of advice.

Hope this is useful and well done on keeping your consumption in check.
