I Have Just bought the Humax 9300T, very pleased so far as it does just what it says on the tin the fan noise, an earlier problem seems to have been solved with these newer models. I am really impressed with the FF and FR search speeds it is really fast,

  • Cheers for the AVforums link. I found a thread all about the 9300T.

It looks like the one for me. I'll be heading to have a look at one tomorrow.

Thanks for all the responses. Very useful!

I thought Sky can give you a Freesat card which would work in existing Sky boxes? Well just looked it up and apparently "if you're not a Sky subscriber, Sky will charge you £10 a month to use the Sky+ recording facility." Not sure how they justify that one...

Thought it might be worth mentioning Project Canvas / YouView which is due to launch around April 2011, presumably some people will consider their existing HDD recorder boxes obsolete if they want everything to run out of one box (I don't imagine there will be a problem having a separate box aslong as you don't mind having two remotes etc).

The Freesat card just decrypts the few channels not available FTV (Fiver, Five US and the other one I can never remember). If you want to retain the PVR functionality then yes, you have to pay £10 a month. Murdoch doesn't have to justify it, he charges what he thinks he can get away with, you don't have to use it.

Plus one for the Humax - although I'm still using a 9200t model

You could also get a refurbished model (12 month guarantee) from the manufacturers website for £119 + delivery http://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/product.asp?ProdRef=10068&cat=Factory
