Avoid Getting into Debt with Utility Company

This may seem a bit obvious, but if you provide meter readings every time you get near to your billing period, the bill will always be about right or at least near the ballpark

It only when you don't bother to provide regular readings when you built up a massive deficit and end up having to pay a massive charge at the end of the year or your direct debits double which you did not predicted (or budgeted for) To give you an example, my esitmated electricity bill was £15. However, once i provided a reading, it was £30 for the billing period

Therefore, i could have blissfully carried on paying £15 until the day when the Utility company took an actual reading and I ended up having to pay a massive sum

If you want to manage your finances properly, you should provide meter readings before every bill period. This way you always pay for what you use.

Some people may moan that why should they bother to provide readings or they don't have the time to take a minute out of the lives but as the Utility companies don't reguarly check your meters, you have to do it yourself. Otherwise, you can carry one blissfully unaware of situtation until the day comes when a massive bill arrives

It better to know what you are using and pay for it than not to know

    Yes, so agree, Sand Man.
Phoned in my meter readings to (EBICO) Southern Energy 0800 number, on what I thought was the due date.
Got a bill almost by return.
A pleasure to deal with these people, after experiencing Powergrin's muddled a.rsed administration.

Yes well said Sand Man, I agree. Far better to be ahead of the game and know what's going on.
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
  • I agree, I've been caught out like that in the past!
