Rehoming advice for 2 Siamese cats

I was just wondering if anyone can give a friend advice on where to get help rehoming 2 seal point Siamese cats age 10 and 11.

The cats were her parents cats and when they divorced her dad took the cats to live with him. He is now getting remarried and his wife to be is very allergic to cats so he needs to rehome them. He's tried a few places but no one will accept them and he now says that his only option is to put them down :(

My friend is very upset and desperate to find them new homes, she has a dog herself who isn't very good with cats and is due to have her second baby in a weeks time so isn't in the position to take them herself. They have tried all the family and friends they can think of but for various reasons no one can take them. She says they are lovely cats in good health and great with kids, they must be kept together as they are inseparable.

Does anyone know of any shelter or anyone who would take them on in the Durham area.

I know this is a long shot but I remember how helpful you all were when I was looking for help with my mums elderly friends dog after she died earlier this year so thought it was worth a try asking here on her behalf.

Thanks for any ideas.

apparently not, the cats were always more the dads anyway, the mum claims she never liked them :(

Thanks that would be great. I'll be on the train most of tomorrow so I won't be online until late afternoon/early evening but I will check back then.

    Thanks again :)

I don't know what area you live in but if you're in South Wales you could call SHUA, they're a local cat shelter and will always take cats in.

Sorry if that's not much help, I hope you find somewhere for them to go.

Contact the breeder they will more than likely help. Most breeders stipulate that if there is a problem the cats should be returned to them.
  • sadly it doesnt look as if lowis has been online here for about a month or so...

However, I have found a few contacts from her old posts - I am sure she wouldnt mind me copying them in here - although most of these posts were in response to people looking to find a cat for rehoming, (she rehomed the lovely Timmy - RIP - from siamese rescue, and gave hom a lovely home in his old age) of course the same contact details apply:

you could try the Breed rescue sites for a friend...

http://www.burmesecatclub.com/rehoming.shtml although 'burmese' they also have orientals and meezers

i purchased Castle and his sister as kittens but then i got Timmy from Siamese Rescue - he was such a lovely old guy, no troubles with him at all. he just needed a nice loving home. i am definitely converted to Rescue adoption now.

    good luck x

    good on you!

there are many other charities who are always on the look out for homes for their cats, full list for your area can be found here - Cat Chat is one of the best resources on the net for advice and finding available cats:

a lot of the pedigree rescue centres stipulate that the new home must be indoor-only, mainly because most pedigree cats in rescues have come from indoor-only homes in the first place, Siamese Rescue for example, has a few little furballs in need of homes:

if siamese aren't your thing, then try one of the other pedigree rescue centres:

www.catchat.org is a SUPER resource, as stated above.

i would also echo that sometimes local rescues are much easier to deal with and friendlier. i got mine from Siamese Rescue and the lady in the Kent branch (her home basically!) was really lovely - she asked a few questions about me, my life, and i spent some time with the cat before he came home with me...and i had to sign an agreement stating that if things didn't work out that i would take him back. thankfully everything did work out and Timmy is totally settled :)

  • oh - and do try siamese rescue etc even if they dont have a branch near you - often small rescues will have foster carers dotted around the country, or will arrange transport through volunteers to save animals lives.

thanks everyone, I'll pass all the links and info on to my friend. She is waiting to hear back from someone she knows who said they might be able to find them a home, but it's a bit up in the air at the moment so the more options she has to look into the better.

As for contacting the breeder, well they are 10 and 11 years old now so I don't even know if her dad will know how to contact them any more tbh.

have only just seen this - and thanks FC for messaging me.

Siamese Rescue is the best bet - they have branches all over the country. Well done FC for taking the bull by the horn in my absence. any update on the two cats?

And if anyone has a healthy 13 year old or older siamese/oriental or havana they need to rehome, then let me know...still looking for a friend for my boy since Timmy passed away!
