Advice on fitting a phone extension please

Options
Hi,

Am wanting to fit a phone line extension from my master socket down the stairs to one of the bedrooms up the stairs, is this an easy task and would the power need to be swiched off?

You can buy an extension cable with the fittings already on it.

Just plug it in downstairs and fit the other end to where you want it.

Maplins amongst others will sell them.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

if you are planning to run a Broadband connection over and extension i would think again as having extensions from a master socket can cause major problems.

Do you have a broadband connection on this line?

  • Hi,
Its for a sky box, because we are getting a multiroom card for up the stairs and it requires to be connected to a phone line

Easy enough to do just get one of the plug in and wire packs available from most diy places, and no the power does not need to be turned off as the telephone system is a different power system all together.

Just found this on another forum

The Sky installer should have run the phone extension for you, it's part of the multi-room installation.

You can buy wireless phone extensions. The base unit goes into the phone line and nearby plug point, the extension unit goes into a plug point where you want the phone extension to be and the extension unit has a built in telephone socket. Saves messy wires around the house.

If you have sky mulit-room, sky require both boxes to be constantly connected to a phone line to prevent you and your neighbour sharing a sky dish and connections with a box each.
