EGR valve. Sometimes a fault code shows up pointing to the MAF sensor even although its the valve.
You can read fault codes with a paperclip on that car. Join the omega_owners group on yahoo groups, search their files for fault_codes pdf.

all depends what shape veccy b.

if it was one of the very last of the early shape then it will be a x18xe engine and egr is located on r/h side by coil pack. (there were a few of this shape on v plate that mobo and lease had)

if it is the facelift model it will be a x18xe1 and if memory serves me correct it is at the rear on inlet manifold.

personally i would say throttle body and IAC valve clean needed.

is the fault hunting and cutting out on idle or is it surging when on the move?

At the rear of the engine. Roughly in the middle and up at the top. You may have to remove the air filter to get to it. From memory, i think it's 2 bolts that secure it with one of them being a pain to get to.
    That was the 2 litre.
I think it's bolted to what harveybobbles recommends cleaning
