Is an overdraft needed?

I have had my student bank account with HSBC rejected as i have a poor credit history (for 1 DD not clearing.), which is very annoying as my student bank account got rejected. I think i need my overdraft, as i have not saved up that much money. Can any one give any help at all?

have you tried any other banks?

i'd say an overdraft is essential unless you're extremely good at saving, and don't plan to go out / buy books / do anything?

I'd say u prob need a overdraft too have u tried natwest thast who I have my student account with !
  • 1 dd not clearing isn't going to give you a bad credit history - I have a default and HSBC gave me an account with an overdraft no problem. Would suggest you get a copy of your credit report and check there is nothing of surprise on there.

an overdraft isn't needed until it is too late to apply for one.

at the very least get one and prove to the credit agencies that you can manage your debts. its like getting your first credit card to improve your credit rating.

  • try lloyds tsb- i have no credit history (which is basically like BAD credit and is the reason i was turned down for a HBOS student account) and they approved me and gave me the full £1500 overdraft

You can get a £2 data protection act disclosure on your credit rating from Equifax or others...

  • I got a overdraft with natwest and I haven't got a great history. They even gave me it with me saying I don't get a student loan hence nothing to pay in.

  • Just to clarify, i have spoken to the bank and they say that is the reason I got rejected. I'll try a few other banks, thanks alot!! has anybody else had the same problem???
