    actually I just noticed that only about maybe 5% of the bricks show signs of spalling and they tend to be individual ones so no grear urgency i wouldnt have thought

  • Hi just an update I agree with iamcornholio regarding areas of severe exposure within the UK, just that in this case the OP said that they lived by the sea so this narrowed things down a little regarding exposure ratings for such properties.

    As I said there are good and bad points about each system and I have seen many problems with them all and equally I have seen many instances when they all have been installed to severe exposure rated properties yet have been fine. It will probably come down to the client's budget and how mindful they are of considering if this chosen system does go wrong how easily it is to address the problem. Kindest regards - Dave

    thanks all of you for your input.Bearing them in mind I have decided to follow the advice given by some of you , my surveyor and the chap who will be fitting some much needed wall ties to one wall and just prepare the wall surface well, apply stabiliser and cover with good quality exterior emulsion.Next major job will be to hire a roofer to put some lead flashing around the existing dormer window which appears not to have any
