Yup, it appears the change is well in motion and they are just going to be resigned to losing some custom. Oh well.

Thing is where do I go for my day to day banking, don't want to risk Santander, how about Halifax reward?

I could go back to First Direct as never had an issue with their service but will I really be getting anything I don't already get with Nationwide service wise?

Halifax seems to have awful reviews from the survey here. :/

I will have to move on principle, but where to?

I do my Main Banking with CoventryBS now; their Coventry1st current a/c. It's probably not suitable for everyone but I've found it satisfactory. The only drawback is it has no chequebook so I use Halifax's Reward (and £5 x 3 per month!) &/or Santander (having opened another a/c after I dumped them as my main w..., sorry, bankers) when I need chq facilities. Also if I want to pay cash into Coventry1st (and on into the savings a/c I have with them) I pay it into Halifax & then I get it straightaway into Coventry via Halifax's free Immediate Payments thingy.
Expect the worst & hope for the best...

Just come across this petition at ...petitiondotcodotukslashnationwidedashforeigndashcharges

Doesn't seem to have as many signing up as I would have expected given the activity on this forum (and others).
Probably will have no effect but, if you don't try you will never know:mad:

You did read page 6 properly?:
"Hazardous Activity
"Flying, except while travelling in a fixed wing aircraft or
helicopter as a passenger, not as a pilot or aircrew, nor for
the purpose of undertaking any trade or technical operation
in or on the aircraft. Hang-gliding, ballooning, paragliding,
parachuting, parascending or other aerial activities.
Motorcycling on machines exceeding 125cc unless you hold
a full motorcycle licence and have done so for at least three
years and are accident and conviction free."

Doesn't look like it excludes a keen biker - or am I missing something?
I would be interested to know which " Page 6 " you're quoting from! If you go to the pdf of the full Nationwide Travel Insurance policy available on their website, presumably the one they will 'offer' to us, you'll find no mention of hang-gliding,parachuting, aerial activities or hazardous activities. What you will find is a column of ' Adventure Activities A' which you have to select and then have accepted on your policy. This includes "Motorcycling (no Personal liability cover, up to 125cc,wearing a helmet, no racing, with valid UK motor cycle licence)".
Later it is specifically stated that when it comes to Emergency Medical expenses, Curtailment of Journey and Personal Accident Cover " We won’t provide cover for you travelling on a motorcycle unless it is no more than 125cc,the driver holds an appropriate valid UK licence (or appropriate valid licence in the country in which the motorcycle is being ridden if the person driving the motorcycle is a non UKresident), you are wearing a crash helmet, and you have chosen cover for Adventureactivities A or B and it is shown on your policy schedule. "
That all seems pretty clear to me and is what I have been pointing out. Have you got a different policy??
• Indeed though for health purposes,i always take my EHIC card as i am entitled to reciprocal healthcare in the EU. I would much rather attend many non UK EU state hospitals than languish i a UK hospital.
Absolutely right to take the EHIC card, it's a must. However you shouldn't expect too much from it. The NHS website specifically says the following:
*The EHIC is not a substitute or replacement for private travel insurance. You should always take out an appropriate private policy in addition to carrying your EHIC.
*It will not cover the costs of private healthcare or services that are not part of the state healthcare system.
*It will not cover the costs of being brought back to the UK
*The card may not be used in some regions, as there may be no state provided healthcare available.

So if you need an air ambulance to repatriate you to the UK after treatment in, say,Bulgaria or Poland, because of serious back or neck injuries sustained in a road accident the EHIC won't pay.( Don't think it won't happen, it has happened, to many people in car and bike crashes). Your travel insurance should pay for an air ambulance, and my own policy specifically says it would. Interestingly, the Nationwide Travel Insurance policy wording available as a pdf on the NW website makes no mention of air ambulances being covered. The nearest it gets is: "We won’t cover medical costs over £250, or in-patient treatment, or sending you home,if we have not authorised this." Not a very positive attitude, methinks. And of course, as a motorcyclist of a bike larger than 125cc, I wouldn't be covered for any of this anyway - if I was mad enough to rely upon it.....!

• Just got off the phone to Customer Services... funny they said that they had few complaints about these changes and it is only fair da de da... I pointed out this thread and said there were many like it on the internet where people were up in arms about the conduct of Nationwide. She couldn't comments.... blissfully unaware... was there anything else I wanted to talk to her about today...

I was suitably confused when I got a new Cirrus card against the knowledge that was to be withdrawn like now... oh and she said all banks are withdrawing them... I said not Master Card Debit cards. Scrapping Cirrus cards is just one other saving they are putting in at the minute as well. Apparently I'll get the replacement card real soon. I'm one of those people who have been abusing Nationwide by holding a large sum of money in the bank and running two current accounts one with VISA and one with a Cirrus card [it's handy abroad to have both card types]. I'm surprised people like me were not picked up for ridicule in their paper work.

That's the problem when building societies mis-use your money by getting you to put it there, lend it out at higher interest rates than they pay you and abuse you for telling you that you have abused their services of free use of their facilities that they offered whilst they are using your money, but now feel they can call that abuse just for the hell of it.

So end of call with stony women in customer services, nah I'll still move my capital out and get a better deal elsewhere. Good point keep some money in the account so you don't loose out on any sales. I'll still have the VISA debit card for back up if I have issues when using the Master Card debit card with 0 percent charges I'm getting elsewhere.

You're looking at a different policy. The one specifically for Flexaccount customers is linked from the front page announcement for the new travel policy, but you can also get to it by following the Insurance -> Travel Insurance link which shows both policies side-by-side.
