Will they? Most banks don't send statements that have no transactions on them

One veeeery evil thing to do would be to leave a couple pounds on two accounts, and set up a monthly standing order for £1 between those...
    :p

I certainly though can see why many who have been with Nationwide Flex for many years are livid but don't be livid with me for doing what Nationwide were happy with me doing. That is getting us nowhere.
Took Nationwide long enough to spot there were 900,000 of you didn't it!

The key thing here is "other banks". Nationwide are not a bank. They are owned by us, their members. Why shouldn't we get a say in how OUR society is run and what products we are offered?
I enquired in the branch today about the changes to which they replied "we're just doing what the others do". How can they continue to use the slogan 'Proud to be different'.

  • On Monday I was told the letters were going out from that day. Today I was told they had been going out for the past week but they had to stagger them. On that basis half of us should have recieved a letter by now. Where's yours?

The person I spoke to from the Complaints Dept yesterday said the letters were 'on hold'.

The Cumberland BS if you prefer to move to its branch area instead. The dreaded Santander does not charge if you use its ATMs in Spain and pay in £1,000 per month.

Yes, but I thought we all agreed not to touch Santander with a barge pole! Believe me, with all the chasing up you have to do, it costs the customer more than any saving you can make. Stay clear!

Well Santander do!!!! . . . they send us two for our joint account which we rarely use (any more!) - apparently they can't stop the computer doing it - now why doesn't that surprise me about Santander?!

Is Santander really as bad as is being portrayed. My Giro/National Giro/National Girobank/Alliance & Leicester account, which I have had since 1972 has just transferred to a "Santander" account with no apparent problems. It has only happened within the last week and so I have had liitle time to assess the situation.

With A&L, my pension has been credited regularly and any DD's and SO's have been implemented satisfactorily. I can draw money from the post office or any other cash point without any problems.

What have people found in the past about Santander? Can I expect a dive in service or services?
  • For those who don't actually bank at Nationwide and just use the account for the benefits and are going to close their accounts because of this then off you go because obviously that isn't the type of customers that Nationwide want and probably a reason for this change in account benefits.

Some of you are being rather narrow minded as Nationwide does offer rewards for banking with them, for example if you're ever in a position where you needing a loan, as an account holder you can get a 7.7% rate loan (UK's lowest) excellent 90% mortgage products for first time buyers as well as this new travel insurance covering UK and European travels. Clearly withdrawing the overseas free withdrawals, Nationwide are looking for loyal customers and those who actually pay in to their accounts and therefore should be rewarded with some of the above offers, customers that just used the account for overseas withdrawing actually cost the building society a lot of money and therefore are not worth having as customers.

I don't blame them for taking this reward away and will continue to bank with them and always look at their products first before other banks and building societies (which are usually a lot quicker to remove offers than the four/five years Nationwide have been doing this!)
