I have just had my Compaq Presarion F560 checked by PC World (Currys group) and been offered £170 as a contribution towards a replacement as it has a manufacturers NVidia graphics fault. Does this sound like a reasonable offer? We originally paid £399 and been using it for around 34 months.

Do I accept the offer and if I do what should get for under £400 that will run all the usual home apps / Skype / etc?

Thanks for all the help.

It looks like they're doing they're doing their calculations based on a 5 year life which is what is recommended on the Nvidia Defect forum.

Assuming that you haven't had to fork out for an engineers report then I would say it's a fair offer.

If it had a manufacturer fault, then it wasn't fit for purpose and should be replaced.
But if you are happy with the offer and you are free to spend the £170 anywhere, this Toshiba Satellite L450D-11V is good value at £274.

34 months is a long time to be using a computer with a manufacturers fault.

    Thanks for your replies.

Am assuming it would be a voucher to spend with Currys, however have not actually accepted the offer as yet.

I take your point, 23n1th, but it was just waiting to go wrong as it had an inherent fault, so I was lucky it lasted as long as it did I suppose. Had the fault not been there I would not be having to fork out any money at all for a new laptop now as it would still be functioning.

Now that is a lot less attractive.

Have to agree currys vouchers not the best. I'm not sure you'll get a better offer though I'd try.
