I don't think any school would allow them to be barefoot on health and safety grounds.
When we go barefoot into the hall for PE children have to take a pair of shoes with them in case we have to be evacuated.
Think this thread must be a wind-up???0 -

...they say they can not afford £30 to £40 for shoes and she is better of barefoot then in cheap shoes
I'd say that everyone needs shoes, but whether you choose to wear them all the time is up to you. I'd say there are certain times that, for safety reasons, shoes should be worn, but at other times going barefoot is not a problem.
If they say they can't afford new shoes, maybe it's worth them visiting some car boot sales then. I've seen loads of children's shoes that are in good condition (been grown out of, rather than worn out) and they are never expensive. Just check that they fit the children's feet properly. No trees were killed to send this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced. - Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson)0 -

My kids don't leave the house without shoes, whether it's to play in the garden or just nip out to the car. I was walking in some cheap soft soled shoes the other day, and stood on a stone and it blimmin hurt, but I was thankful I had the shoes on or it really would have hurt. I'd have real problems seeing a kid walking round town with no shoes on, it wouldn't sit right with me at all. Without being as over dramatic as it sounds, if you can't provide things like shoes for your kids, I think I'd consider as neglect. Which is why I think this post is a wind up. There's no way a kid could be left to wander the streets with no shoes, no parent could be that selfish or get away with it.0

Can I just point out our feet were designed to BE barefoot and not crammed into shoes or boots
I would have no problem with my kids doing it, I used to do it myself
If I were onboard with 'designed' (evolved?) I'd point out that they were not 'designed' to walk on cobbles, gravel, broken glass, discarded chewing gum or dog c**p. If they were only walking on lovely springy new turf that's be fine!0 -
My girls wear footwear outside the home at all times. I don't trust the dog owners, bottle smashers or filthy spitters.0

cobbles, gravel and chewing gum will do precisely NO harm to feet at all:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0 -
well you teach your kids to look where they put their feet and problem solved;)
cobbles, gravel and chewing gum will do precisely NO harm to feet at all
This will not do much good for your carpets though (if you have them)neither will dog mess.
I guess older kids might have less of a chance of harming themselves but little un's couln't be expected to look at the pavement all the time
I think shoes are there to provide some protection and keep feet warm and dry in the winter, I personally wouldn't consider myself a responsible parent if i allowed my kids to not wear any outside the house and garden.
I couldn't care less what adults do
Still think this thread is a wind up :rotfl:0
