British Bas Websaver 8 - good idea or better with fixed rate?

Hi there
I am considering moving to the above. Should make annual savings, along with the £50 bill credit after one year.
However, then got concerned reading the papers yesterday that BG may be hiking up prices and therefore this may not be such a good deal.
Any experts on there who have been watching the market and have any views to share on whether I may be better going with a fixed rate for a year?
Thanks

I've just been hit by the EDF price rise and spent two days looking for an alternative. Whilst this B GAS deal looks good it does have a tie in, and any price rise I think could wipe out savings....and in my region the B GAS unit rates on this tariff are almost double what I'm paying now!!!!
But on the flip side I can't see B GAS daring to to increase price for a while after the massive profits they have just made.
I think I might go for Southern Electric's Price fix 4, although tied in for the year, at least the prices can't go up.
In conclusion....as per usual the market is a minefield!!
Don't know if this helps... but happy hunting!0 -
Yes, I am familiar with that non-story. I repeat. They have not made massive profits. What massive profits are you talking about? Please supply corroborating data.0

I was only trying to help with an opinion Kim.
You may also wish to check the BBC news website for 28 July which says the following:
British Gas made operating profits of £585m for the first half of 2010, up 98% on the same period last year.
Sam Laidlaw: "This is a much bigger group than we had a year ago"
The company, which supplies gas to more than half of the country's households, won new customers and benefited from the cold winter.
Gas use was 8% above 2009, and the company has added 400,000 more residential customers since then.
However, watchdog Consumer Focus said such a jump in profits would "sound alarm bells".
Maybe you are a sleep at your British Gas desk Kim?0 -
You are missing out the adjective 'massive'. Please corroborate your belief that the profits are 'massive'. I am not disputing that British Gas have made a very modest profit.0
