Slate tiles for our kitchen floor

Anyone got any tips on where to buy natural slate tiles for kitchen floor?

I really want ones that are smooth so easy to clean with a mop (we have had slate tiles on our old house and they were really rough hand difficult to mop).

Aside from the expense what are the pros and cons between real slate tiles and ceramic? ~Any help appreciated.

The main disadvantage (as you have discovered) is natural products are harder to keep clean.

we got ours from www.firedearth.com visited a local showroom and ordered from there.

Our fitter wouldnt touch the ones from the likes of "Tops" he didnt rate them as of quality. So he sent us to Fired Earth. Turns out his advice was worth it.

They were willng to negotiate a price as well, which was nice.

We have found that a good sealant on the floor makes it easier to look after.

A sweep daily with a horse hair brush, and a mop over once a week (with FTP Floor shine), and one year on still looking great.

The smooth which are as you say easy to clean,but like an ice rink when they get spills on,do be careful.
