my other half keeps dropping her laptop (knocking it off a tabletop, leaving it on the floor and standing on it etc) - i know she's got to be more careful but i wondered if i could help a little by getting some kind of sturdy case to put it in?
I'll need something it stays in all the time, not just a carry case.. so a skin type thing or something that can be unzipped and opened so the laptop can be used with it still in the case...
Any ideas?
OR - we might soon need to get her a new laptop anyway so maybe there are some decent laptops that are made for more demanding use!!?
thanks all!

Or a Panasonic Toughbook

ha! yes, desktop would make sense but she needs it to be portable and we dont have the space for a desktop anyway...
i was thinking more like just getting a netbook and a super strong case of some kind... or maybe just wrapping it in a duvet!0 -
The problem is that if you drop a laptop, unless it's been specifically designed to withstand drops etc (see the toughbook as a good example!), you'll probably break something inside which can be a costly repair job!
I believe IBM used to make laptops that could detect when it had been dropped and would "brace" the hard drive for the impact, not sure if Lenovo continued this model/series on?:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
You can get laptop hard drives with freefall sensors. My Macbook Pro has such a thing and I hear a click every time I pick it up a bit too quickly as it parks the drive heads. A customer of mine has knackered their laptop drive when their toddler dragged it off the settee it so I'm replacing it with a freefall sensing one which is an additional £25 over the cost of the same size drive without it.0

Yes, you can buy a protective skin(I have one), but using it inside the skin may block the ventilation ports. If hers are on the side, you may get away with it.0 -

I would tell her that a new laptop would come off her shoe shopping allowanceThis way she might treat the laptop more carefully...
