Trevi power shower temperature control stuck - help!

We have a Trevi power shower, fitted in 2001. Always worked brilliantly, but this morning I couldn't change the temperature using the control.
To try and describe it: There are two controls side by side on a face place, one for the temperature and one for the flow of water. The temperature one turns left for hotter water, to the right for colder (usually!) This morning whatever I did the water temperature remained the same - which was too hot. (Cue a lot of 'ooh's and 'ah's as I tried to rinse off the soap with too hot water!)
Can anyone help at all, or give me some idea as to how this works? I don't know whether it's a 5p washer job or a '£300 and a plumber' type of repair.
In the short term I guess the only option is to reduce the temperature of the hot water in the hot water tank as a workaround, but I'd rather fix the shower....
Anyone?
