£100 CREDIT! don't know where it is from.

Hello, As per title, I got £100 credit in my currect account and havn't got a clue where it is from. I have rang my bank (Co-Op) and they said they don't know where it is from either but has a reference number and that's it.
I know exactly what I've got going in my bank and going out so i dunno.

Bizzare.

Only thing I can think of is some sort of compensation for the below:
I made a complaint to my bank about a week or two ago and got a letter confirming reciept of it and they were looking into it. This complaint was for them stopping my card (Fraud)when I was paying for a holiday, then when I went to re-book it had gone!. It wasn't fraud as it was me doing it hence the complaint.

Anyways anybody else had this happen to them and don't know where it is from?

Ta.

If it was that they should have recognised the reference number. If this has only arrived today it may appear with more details tomorrow. It sounds like this has been in your account longer than that though.

Its possible - although unlikely - that if you post the reference that is quoted that someone will recognise it and tell you who it is.

If not, don't spend it, put it somewhere safe and wait for the request to repay it when someone realises its gone missing.

A similar thing happened to me recently. My bank couldn't provide anything but the reference number and that told me nothing. I left it there assuming it was an error, which would be rectified at a later date but it was never debited.

Around 2 months later, the mystery was finally solved when I received an email. It turns out the credit was a compensation payment for a BA/Virgin fuel charge price fixing compensation claim that I'd made 18 months prior (and had forgot about)

    Thanks for replys.

Rang bank again and it is indeed compensation for my complaint. Result. Awaiting letter but money gone in already. Can't complain.

    Thanks.
