TFT Refresh rates.

Just wondering if someone can tell me a bit about refresh rates. I just bought a new 19" TFT, my old 17"'s refresh rate was 75ghz.
Does it matter what refresh rate the new one is at? It seems to look a little blurry at 75ghz but fine at 85ghz. Just wanna double check I'm not gonna blow anything changing that.
(Damn my complete and utter lack of knowledge as far as as graphics go).
Thanks in advance.

What monitor do you have ? and what gfx card do you have ? You can tell your graphics card to not show refresh rates that your monitor cannot handle through certain settings.
Post the model numbers of the back of the monitor here and will be able to tell moreMan who stands on toilet is high on pot. - Old chinese proverb.0 -
If you set the refresh rate higher than a TFT monitor is rated for, it won't even try to display it. It'll just ignore the signal.古池や蛙飛込む水の音0

Really? It looks great when I set it to 100ghz, but as I said, I don't want to blow anything up. Knowing my luck it'll go boom after me only having it for an hour.Sigless0 -
go into Properties on your screen (right click on desktop) and select Settings and then select Advanced. Then tick the box (circle) that says 'Ask me before etc etc'.
Now, navigate to the section where you can change your refresh rate (can't tell you where this is, as I have a bespoke prog here that does all this) and select 75 and see what happens.
If all is ok, then click ok and that setting will be saved. Then you can try the next number (higher than 75) and repeat until you have the highest refresh rate your computer can handle, at the resolution you have your screen set to.
If, when you select a refresh rate, the screen goes MAD'...don't panic! Just Do Nothing, and after 15 seconds it will revert back to the working screen.
Leave it at what you are happy with matey

lol no that's great. I just wanted to make sure I won't blow anything. So it just won't display or it'll go mad if it can't handle the refresh rate?
I've set it to 85khz and it looks good, damn lack of drivers lol.Sigless0 -

Just to clarify, TFT or LCD screens do not have refresh rate. The refresh rate was the measure of how fast a CRT screen was refreshed. TFT (Thin Film Transistors) should be measured by the pixel response time (usually 2-20ms).
BTW, the refresh rate is measured in Hz not GHz.
As for your issue, just select the box that says "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" in the Windows Display Control Panel.0 -
have updated original post :P , I use mine on 100hz but have a 7900 gtx card but also use same monitor on a 6600 gt at 100hz so you are ok and 6300 is good card if you dont play games. And a good card if you play older games
