Connecting 2 xbox's to same connection

My eldest son has an x box that is connected directly into the router. My youngest son has saved up and bought an xbox which is in a separate room and he has a wireless adaptor on it to enable him to connect to the internet. The problem is that the first one to turn on their x box obtains a good connection, however when the other one turns on their x box, the connection is poor. This means that (usually) it is the youngest who cannot get on games, which causes a lot of arguments!!!! As you can imagine now they are off school, the arguments are constant, and normally it is the youngest who is at a disadvantage. I would be really gateful if anyone could give me any advice as to what I can do to rectify this. We have Sky broadband.
Many Thanks

Hi there
I don't think it's your xBox that's the problem - it's probably the speed of your broadband connection.
Who are you with and what speed are you getting? In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I am with Sky Broadband, I don't know the speed, but I don't pay for the service (it's included in the package) so I suspect it won't be a fast connection!0 -

Yup this would be the issue. I used to play online with 2 brothers who shared a connection (10MB at the time) and they had no issues.
I get problems playing online when my other half watches youtube video's on her laptop (I have a 4MB connection).
Go to https://www.speedtest.net, tell us your speed upload/download, ping and we'll see if that's the issue:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
Hi,
Thanks for your reply, it's 11.52mb download, 0.73 upload, ping 44ms.0 -
Sounds like it should be ok, the upload is a little sluggish.
I'm assuming they're arguing most when it's after 5pm?
If so, the reason is that this is peak time and most ISP's have traffic shaping. This forces the speeds to be lower during peak time due to demand from all their subscribers.
Another question, do you have "Sky Everyday" or "sky ultimate" ?:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
To be honest, they have a bad connection throughout the day, they have said that they don't notice it being any worse after 5 pm. I have Sky broadband, everyday lite. Do you think it would be worth upgrading ? Would an upgrade make the connection any better?
Thanks

Just as a quick thought, are both xbox's running wirelessly? is it possible to hardwire one to see if the problem goes away? I assume it could be interference or wireless speed etc, might be barking up the wrong tree but worth a try!
***** Scrap that, Re-read OP *****0 -
Well Sky everyday light has a 2GB monthly usage, it might be worth upgrading, but don't jump the gun just yet.
Another approach to try is... (the cheapest option, we are money savers after all) If you can try hard wiring both xbox's and see how performance is then, I feel it could be something to do with the wireless, it may not be, but always worth ruling it out.
Does anyone else use the network at the same time? Eg: web browsing/downloading anything - all this will effect it too.:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
I use the internet, but not frequently. I don't think my usage would have any real effect on it.0

Well if you can try plugging Ethernet cables into both xbox's and let me know how that gets on.
If that works, great
If not, back with the ol' thinkin' cap :exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0
