Looks like winter 2010/2011 is going to be harsher than the last one!
If the mail is be to beleived then folks from a gas point of view get you boilers and fires serviced now, check the batteries in your co alarms now and read the manuals that came with them as well as the ones that came with boilers etc so you know they are all working well and safely before winter strikes, but this is something we should be doing anyway as nothing personal but you do not want to find yourself speaking to me on a professional basis.
Also for those of you on pre paid meters make sure you find out what the contact number is for your gas supplier and keep it somewhere safe, perhaps stick a label on the meter cupboard door., there is often a number on the back of the card you put into the meter but not always.

The original posting should read:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/newsdebate/r/t-10137958/p-1/index.html
Read from page 3 to page 1 as it goes backwards but looking at the patterns and the weather enthusiasts it looks like winter is going to be worse than last year!
I have reported the problem as my original posting has gone it seems! If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -
Never mind believing the Mail; the met office usually gets the weather wrong for the next day so I can't see any predictions for winter weather being valid. All good advice, but since when is the Mail to be believed?!?!
:rotfl:
In any case, the utilities are greedy enough to squeeze ever more cash out of us no matter what the weather.0 -

The company positiveweathersolutions who predicted last years poor summer and the bad winter just gone are the ones also agreeing with this winter that is due.If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -

Let's hope they get it wrong for a change then. I couldn't face another winter like last year's. I don't mind the odd couple of days of snow or freezing temps but it's horrible when it goes on for weeks like last year.0 -

Dont the Mail generally run with the "THE SEA WILL FREEZE!" headline every winter??Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!

Well most summers in recent times have been poor so not too hard to predict there(this year has been pretty rubbish too). Last winter otoh was quite a bad one so I will be interested to see if they get this correct twice in succession. I stand by my usual prediction in that we will get a normal winter again this year which means fairly mild, wet and hardly any snow and this has been proven true 8 or 9 times in the last decade.richardc1983 wrote: »The company positiveweathersolutions who predicted last years poor summer and the bad winter just gone are the ones also agreeing with this winter that is due.0 -

It very much depends where in the UK you live as to whether you have had a good summer or not.
Here in the SW it's been very pleasant - parts of the SE are still suffering drought. The NW has had more than it's fair share of rain.
You can't make a sweeping statement that this Summer has been poor, it simply hasn't for everyone!
Exactly the same applies in Winter. We can get months of "cold rain" in this area, which is probably worse than getting a good snowfall in some respects!
Truth is "fairly mild & wet" is the sort of Winter the UK should get. We're an Island, surrounded by warm water, so mild weather has favourable conditions...When we do get a cold Winter it bites hard because it is not the norm and we're not geared up for it.0
