Credit checks - Address

Hello everyone
I'm about to start a contract with a new landlord via an estate agency. Obviously they want to do a credit check, which is fine for me as my finances are not any issue...
However - A few months ago I moved to london to live whilst I worked and waited for my girlfriend's contract to run out so we could get a place together. So whilst in london I rented at a shared house with people who placed an ad online.
I paid the rent into a shared account, from which the landlord took the total rent due every month. BUT the landlord has no knowledge that I am living there, when I first got there, neither myself nor the others saw any point in changing the contract and replacing the previous tenant's name with mine, as it was only for 6 months max.
So now on the credit check form it is asking for landlord references and I can't get any because they don't know me and I've never signed a contract. I'm thinking of just putting my home address back in Bristol as my current address (as technically I've never signed a contract to live anywhere else), but I'm worried that my old home address won't match my ACTUAL current address in london, which is on things like bank statements/pay slips.
Could I say that I've just been living with friends in london and so getting my mail sent there? Should I mention that I was paying them rent? Should I use my parents address back in bristol as my current address? ARGH! Are the credit checkers going to run a full on investigation, or will they just ring mum and dad and if they say "yes he lives here" will that be enough?
All responses welcome
Matt
