When is a car tax disk valid from?
Options
i've just bought a new car and as such it isn't taxed. My local post office say i can buy a disk on Friday 30th July. Question - when they give me the disk and I put it in the window, is my car taxed even though it's not August yet? Or do I have to wait until the 1st August??

If you buy a tax disc starting 1st Aug then it's valid from 1st Aug. If you buy one from 1st July then it's started July 1st.
By you syaing the PO will allow you to buy disc on 30th July this means you are getting one starting 1st Aug as otherewise you could buy it today if it started 1st July.
So you could not use vehicle til 1st Aug.

As above, so you can use it on the day it states.0

You can only use it on the date stated on the disc, not a day before.
From Mid night the day it is due to start, your disc will be 1st of August, using the car before this date with that tax disc will not cover you and you are liable to be stopped for not having road duty0 -
Nor can you keep it on a public highway without valid road tax.0

This is my opinion:- They don't have a start date on them only an expiry date, so as the DVLA will let the Post office sell you a tax disk on the 30st of July that 'starts on 1st Aug' so I would use it.
The same way as when I renew my VED i put the new disk up as soon as I have it to avoid losing it or forgetting.0 -
Technically you shouldn't use it, but the chances of anyone caring that you've put up your new disc 1 day early are minimal. They can't expect everyone to wake up at midnight and change their tax disc as soon as it expires.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

When they say someone got off on a technicality, it doesn't usually mean the judge's car broke down.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

but it will either be a 6 or 12 month disc, so you couldnt assume a disc expiring in january to be valid for july0
