our focus[diesel 54reg] has been having problems starting, had fly wheel replaced last week.it conked out again on monday, mechanic said it sounded like fuel injectors as it was blowing white smoke.
he didnt have the compouter needed to diagnose it so took it to ford garage.they cant find the fault and its in bits in the garage.
its done 125,000 miles.hubby does 90 mile round trip nearly every day for work.we paid 5 grand for it 3 years ago.do you think its time to replace? we have 4 grand from his parents, possible 5 grand loan.were hoping to get trade in value on old car.if it is going to cost more than a couple of hundred will garage tell us before they do the work?

When it had the flywheel replaced, did they change the starter motor at the same time? They're usually clogged up with filings from the flywheel so it tends to be done as a precaution.

it did start for a week then it totally cut out after blowing white smoke.
no they didnt change the starter motor. surely that would of shown up on the computer diagnostics.would be strange if it was something as small as that. neither of us know much about cars, but the guy we go to is well known to us and other friends and family so totally trustworthy,i mean he wouldnt charge us loads if it was something small he had overlooked.

Is it a TDCI diesel? Sensor in the flywheel housing gets covered in much from the clutch and
flywheel that breaks up. Fairly cheap fix under £30.

Did it do it before the clutch change? Could be a simple wiring or sensor issue, No shortage of those.

The garage will only do what you have told them. If you said find the fault and fix it they will do whatever
need doing, If that includes stripping the engine they will. Unless you told them not to.

Get back in touch see what they have done and explain how far you are willing to go with it.

A new set of diesel injectors could be £700 easily.

Why not stick with the Focus as youve spent a bit on recently?

agreed keep the dough in a ISA and leave the bank loan well alone until the focus has completely died, from sound of it you spent some money on it lately so it should be ok now.
