My dvd burner has stopped working ( refurbish disc??)

when i try to burn a movie file to dvd i insert a dvd and i get this message.

'please insert a disc and refurbish disc info'

then nothing happens i insert blank media which ive always used but nothing happens.

im using a NEC DVD RW ND-3500AG if thats info is any use to you.

can someone please help. cheers.

    It doesn't sound like this error message comes from Windows. What software are you using to burn the movie? Did you try a different brand of DVD's?

    winavi and i use Riddisc, ive used these for a number of years.

    Manufacturers don't always use the same dye in the disc construction, and just because one type works it doesn't follow that your drive will accept any old blank media.

    Try another brand of disc, if that works then your drive more than likely wants a firmware update.
    If it doesn't work, it's time to spend £15 on a new drive.

    You could try a firmware update, so that the drive will recognize newer DVD's.
