MBNA credit cards

I was told today by MBNA that i couldn't increase my minimum payment by direct debit, the only way to pay more was through the bank or throught the MBNA website. I this normal? We are told everyday direct debit is the quickest easies way of paying bills etc but it seems to me credit card companies find every excuse to avoid you trying to clear your debts because they are gaining interest daily.

I am also interested in increasing the minimum payment on one of my cards with MBNA. Has anyone out there had any success with this? My reason is that on various "lifestyle events" the card comes with insurance that covers the minimum payments for up to three months. Hence higher minimum payment => higher benefitIf I had a pound for every time I didn't play the lottery...0

Can you set up a standing order to pay a fixed amount every month?0

MBNA only allow DDs to be set up for the minimum payment or the full amount. If you want to pay additional sums (or a higher sum) then you need to do this by Standaing Order or online banking I am afraid.
They used to allow fixed payments, but then people spent more on their cards, forgot about the minimum payment being more than the fixed payment, and blamed MBNA for not informing them. So they stopped fixed payments. No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.
