thank the builder even though he is the one going bankrupt deserves a thank you .. he didnt need to ring and tell you to cancel the cheque.. not all builders would do that..Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0 -
Thats great news - I was worried for you. But as has been said - well done to the Builder too - he didn't have to call you.0

Really pleased for you. x0

I think I'd probably use this builder to do the work anyway..
Honesty is priceless.

yeah let him do the work anyway under his new company as a sole trader - atleast you can trust him - just make sure you buy all the material yourself!0

Thanks for all the kind comments - we are extremely relieved to get the money back!:D
Yeh, the builder has been very honest about the whole thing and was really happy that I got the money back. He actually has got another company (here's one I prepared earlier style!) and does still want to do the work. He's even offered us a discount due to the stress we've been through and said we can weight the payments towards the end of the job and pay less up front to make us feel more comfortable.
He's also gone into detail about the cause of the liquidation of his company and it sounds as if it wasn't completely his fault.
The only reason we are hesitant is because if he starts the job, takes our roof off and then gets into financial difficulty again then we'd be in the position of trying to find a builder to finish the job.
What would you do? Opinions welcome...0
