Striped stair carpet

We're thinking of having a striped stair carpet, either fully fitted or as a runner.

Does anyone else have striped carpet on their stairs, any pics?

Its so hard to visualise the overall look. We've had the whole hall stairs and landing plastered and in the process of painting so need to get on with choosing the carpet. The hallway floor will be wood flooring.

I was put off having a striped carpet as I was told (and shown) how the stripes start to bend as they get worn on the treads. Obviously that wouldn't bother evryone.

I wonder how long it takes for that to happen, hadnt thought of that before now.

  • I take it that you don't have any winders? That is no stairs going round a corner?

Because if you do it will look terrible on the winders.

No, just the usual straight stairs and L-shaped landing.

I was advised not to, because the guy said it is very hard to fit because the stairs can easily 'run out' and even a few mm will show at the edges if there is any sort of run in the stairs.

My own thoughts were to get the hall and top hall done brown/stone and get the striped carpet from behar that looked really nice with my colours. Behar were encouraging me but a local fitter said he wouldn't advise. I had also worried that if I get fed up with it I might struggle to get carpet to match the rest to replace it. I do think it's a nice idea, and would look rfeally nice, but those other issues put me off.

I'm seriously considering ordering Cormar carpet online now due to the price difference.
  • I have striped stair and landing carpet and I think it looks great. Had it for about 4 years now and stripes are still straight.

Not sure what you mean by this?

Pamperedprincess, your hall looks lovely. I'm thinking of this black/grey version in the photo http://www.barkerandstonehouse.co.uk/Carpets/flooring/carpets/Mississippi/1b-653-61179/

That is lovely and a very practical colour. It looks really striking and if fitted properly there should not be an issue with the stripes running off.

    Go fo it.:D
