As my PC generally sounded like a jet engine taking off whenever I switched
it on, I decided to do something about it.
As such I purchased a new PSU, new processor fan (zalman) and a new case.
I took the old PC apart and put it all back together again today.
It works great...... except....
My internet is slow as poo and I mean compared to what it should be it is
slow as POO.
On Orange 2 meg BB and would typically get a max download speed of nearly
200K, now I'm getting between 10K & 40K, no more.
I did a couple of online speed checks and they reckon that I'm running at
full speed but I've never experienced speeds this slow when downloading
programs from a variety of websites.
Is the internet just crap tonight and I'm unlucky with timing or did I break
something?
Using a wireless linksys set up... tried turning the router off for a few
minutes and also did a hard reboot via the software (which fixed a previous
problem in the past).. the only thing left to do is reset the router
completely and start again.
Any other toughts?

I'd try connecting the PC and router by cable instead of wirelessly just to eliminate that possibility.
Otherwise, as the speed tests seem ok, it's probably the particular servers you are trying to download from.0 -
There have been quite a few servers as I've done a fresh install of XP with the rebuild, the speed has been terrible from all of the servers..
Unfortunately I don't have a network connection on my PC so I cannot connect it using a wire.

Could it be that Orange have introduced packet shaping? I know a few providers are starting to do that.
Try downloading something from microsoft - dotnetfx.exe is a good one to try. See what speed that gives you.0 -
