Bank charge for overdrawing due to bank charge

Has anyone else been caught out by this? I have been charged by my bank for going over my overdraft limit, but the only reason for going over it in the first case is because of bank charges being levied to my account between two and five days before the end of the month when I am paid. The charges vary from £5 to over £40, but I can't see any date in the past year and a half where I have personally caused the overdraft to be exceeded. Can banks put customers in a position of going over their overdraft limit, then charge for doing so?

Yes they can and do, quite regularly.0

Especially when the charges are notified to you a month at least in advance.0

Yes, if the funds aren't in your account to cover fees and charges on your account which then takes you back into an unauthorised overdraft you will be charged again. Check the terms and conditions of your contract, most banks are easily available online.0
