Moving - don't need BT or any landline

Options
i'm buying a house & will get the keys in about 10 days time, but i don't plan to move in for about a month or two.

the current owners have a BT landline, but we don't want any landline at all.

Will BT automatically keep the service going & do i need to tell them i don't want their service?
or will it just automatically cease on the day the current owners move out?

The line should die assuming a) the existing owners have told BT they are moving and b) you have not requested to keep the line.

In any case, with no contract with BT they can't take any money off you!

BT will most likely place a 'Stop' on the line. This is the quick-fix way of preventing service to a property. If they need the connections for someone else though they may then Cease the stopped line meaning if you did want a line in the future there would likely be connection fees to pay. But anyway, before I digress into technical nature of how BT operate :P... They don't have your bank details so I dont see how they could take the money anyway

I woul assume the people leacing are going to be sensible enough to inform BT they are leaving, after all if they forgot you could be ringing cousin Vincenzo in Paraguay for 6 hours a day!

    thanks for the replies.

i would assume the current owners will contact BT so seems like i don't need to have any contact with BT.

When i do move in eventually, i will be going with cable (virgin) so won't ever want BT.
