What's the point in a Homebuyers Survey?

I agree. Our buyers had a full survey, then they were told they needed to do a separate survey on; the drains, electrics, timbers, roof and wall ties. So more expense and more aggro for us as all these different guys came round.
I just thought the original survey, which took over 3 hours, seemed to be a waste of time as all he said was, "Get other people in to check things."0 -
Thank you clg86 and vet8 . Looks like the the individual survey approach may be the best way forward even it is not the 'normal' way of doing things. I am a little worried that the vendors will get annoyed if I start sending lots of different people round but there doesnt seem to be a better option!
It still amazes me though, because practically everyone I have asked (solicitor, bank guy etc) all recommend the Homebuyers survey still! I personally did not find it of any particular use.
Final question if anyone can answer it- will there be someone who can combine a few of the things I would like to be checked out ie. do a structural/damp/timber/wall tie etc all in one report or is is that unrealistic?
Thanks once again0 -
My homebuyers seemed pretty pointless. It told me everything I could have guessed myself because of the age of the house or just by looking and everything else e.g. gas, electrics, boiler etc, it told me that I should get investigated. Well I could have worked all that out myself and saved money. I had mine done at the same time as the mortgage valuation and I think if I ever buy again I will get it done separately and have a proper report done.0
