Signing off JSA, LHA run on for 4 weeks?

If someone signs off JSA to start S.Employment how do you go about applying for a run on of housing allowance?

Then if after 4 weeks you are not making much profit can you then apply for S.E based LHA?

Comments

  • To be entitled to the run on you must have been claiming JSA for 26 weeks without ANY gaps (not even a day) and the job that you are taking must be going to last for at least 5 weeks. If you satisfy this criteria, the run on should be automatic. After this, you would need to apply for Housing/Council Tax benefit on the basis of a low wage from your local council.

Just to add, it has to be income based jsa that ends when you start work, contribution based isn't sufficient
I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

If you are entitled to the run on the job centre will notify the council automatically, although it never hurts to go to the council and make sure as I have found bureaucracy can sometimes rear it's head and mess things up.
