Hi everyone, I'm looking for some breakdown cover for my car and I've heard that Martin recommends Autoaid. I've had a quick look at their website but I'm still a little bit confused, do they have actual vans driving around or are they just a company that employs local patrols to attend the scene of your breakdown?
I'm wondering if I'd be better off with a bigger name like the RAC or AA, maybe Green Flag or Britannia as well.
I'm not that worried about having home start but would need transport home or to my destination for me and my family if we were out and about.
Thanks for any advice!

Had a policy with them 5+ Years and recommend them. Called out 3 or 4 times and was assisted by a local company each time in well under an hour. You just have to have the funds available to pay at the time and then make the claim which has always been painless.0

I'll follow this thread because i also want to have breakdown cover. What I want to know is if you do not have breakdown cover with anyone then what happens if you break down? I mean who do you phone??0

Yikes i'll have to have a look at this then0

Or use the always reliable 'friend's car and a length of rope' solution to get the car shifted...0

There's a lengthy thread with lots of people's experiences. In general they seem to be mostly positive.

I've been with them for about 4 years now. Never had to call them out though (touch wood) so can't really comment on the service.0 -
I've been with Autoaid for years now. I've used them once and they were great. Cheque arrived by return post after claim. My son and mother use IC breakdown and they too are excellent especially if you don't want to pay out. They have both had cause to call them out and on all three occasions have arrived within 15 minutes. If I only wanted to cover 1 car I'd use them but with Autoaid both member and spouse are covered in any car trhey're driving.0

With Autoaid you can use whoever you like - handy if you break down close to a garage as you can walk in and use them. There's no need to call Autoaid at all.0

I'm in need of breakdown cover so I'll probably be joining AutoAid tomorrow. I have a couple of questions though.
1) What happens if I breakdown and have no cash or cards on me?
I've heard that AutoAid will arrange recovery with an invoice that I can pay at a later date, can someone confirm that?
2) The policy states that I will be covered in any car. Do I have to be the driver of that car, or can I also use AutoAid as a passenger in a friend or family members car?
3) If I breakdown and I choose to use a local recovery firm instead of calling the AutoAid rescue line, do I still need to notify AutoAid as soon as I break down, or can I literally just send them an invoice a couple of days later from my chosen recovery firm/garage?
4) Do they cover any parts needed on the roadside, or is it strictly recovery and labour costs only? I take it that they don't cover any work needed at a garage?
Thanks in advance.0 -
1. You are responsible for paying for the recovery, how you do it is between you and the garage.
2. You are covered in any car you are driving.
3. Just arrange everything yourself then fill in the claim form and send with the receipt and Autoaid will send you the cheque.
4. Same as any recovery service, just recovery and roadside labour.
