BT charges for 1471

I've just rung BT about my bill etc and decided to pay upfront for 12 months (too many other problems with previous providers for me to consider switching) but anyway I queried call charges etc and was told there is a charge of 12p for using 1471.

Is this right? I always thought the charges related to when you use 1471 and then 3 to call the person back.

Do you get charged just for dialling the number itself??

Tried searching but couldnt get a definite answer
2p off is still 2p off!

There is ONLY a charge for using the press 3 Return Call facility on 1471 (it's 12p just for pressing 3, regardless of whether your Return Call is successful or not). The cost of the call is added, if you get through.

    1471 in itself is free.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Hmmm, think I might go with Virgin Media after reading all these posts about BT trying to rip people off!
