Is your GF living with you, or will she be?
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

Food/pet care aren't bills. They are food and pet care ... which are choices
    Credit card isn't a bill, it's a choice.
    Mobiles aren't a bill, they're a choice.

When I say "bills" I mean the basic overhead bills of having a property sitting available.

So: council tax, gas, water, electricity, TV license, basic broadband, phone line.

    For me, they'd roughly be: £75, £0, £15, £40, £12, £18, £15 = £175, which is why I said £250.

Food and buying stuff is on top of bills... that's life, not bills.

no, i know credit card and mobiles arent necessities, food and pet care (i mean cat, dog food and litter) are bills to me, or at least necessary outgoings.

i would assume from the op that they're looking at a 2 bed place at least so i think heating and water might be more, also depends on the services in the area and the choice there is (or isnt)

Sounds affordable, but we don't know the full circumstances. Sounds a fairly expensive house to be honest, if you need a house that expensive then you need it, you'd obviously be better off with lower mortgage payments.

Food, pets and buying stuff I included in my costings. Not including such stuff is asking for trouble, yes I could afford a bigger mortgage if I ate out of rubbish bins, let my budgies go free (they'd be picked off by a cat or hawk soon) and never buy a new pair of shoes.

You should realistically include what you spend, yes you can make sacrifices by not going to the pub, etc. But you need to ask yourself if not being able to eat is worth a more expensive house than you can realistically afford
