Forgotten Nationwide Account Number

Hi

I have noticed on my credit file there is a Current Account for Nationwide.

I think I opened this years ago, and the balance is showing as £0, but I can't remember my account number & sort code so can't check if I did actually open the account, as my credit file only shows the last 4 digits.

Is there any way that I can find out the account number from customer services? Surely they must be able to find me if I have opened an account? :o

Thanks

Just lost my nationwide card and had to call them. To access your details they insist on acct number (for lost cards they will stop a card without an account number but will only order one if you pass their vaidation/ security questions). As you can't remember the account you probably wouldn't be able to get past the validation to have a new card sent to get the account number. I can think of 2 options, if you're registered for internet banking you could send them a message asking them to confirm the full acct number or secondly go to a branch with ID and they'd be able to help.

Alternatively, if you can't face Nationwide's byzantine bureaucracy, try http://www.mylostaccount.org.uk/

Or alternatively just pop into branch with some id say you've not got a card and they will look it up! They will then either close it right there or send you a new card for you to close it depending on circumstances. They do not expect people to know their account number or how else would people who lose their card reorder.

check when they last updated the account information(payment OK or in arrears etc), if the account is closed there won't have been any status updates on it.

No it's still showing as active on my credit file? I don't ever remember opening a bank account with with, doubt I would even get accepted for a current account?

Go into branch and provide ID to them. Ask them to locate the account in the system.

Once you've done that you can see whats happened.
