O2 Home Phone & B'band: Feedback?

Hello there,

Newly registered (but not new to the forums), so if I've placed this thread in the wrong sub-forum, then I apologise :)

I was wondering if anyone here has signed up to O2's new Home Phone and Broadbrand packages? If so, what do you think?

I'm an existing O2 customer but currently have my landline and broadband provided by BT. My 18 month contract with BT is due for renewal and they're currently 'offering' me an upgrade on my broadband but a downgrade on price (£12.99 from £15.99). If I continued with BT, this would mean that I would be paying £25 per month. If I jumped ship to O2, I would be paying £19.50 per month for the same package.

This probably seems a no-brainer, but my experience with BT has (perhaps unusually!) been a positive one, particularly in terms of broadbrand problems. So I'd be grateful if anyone who has signed up to O2 could provide feedback.

Many thanks!

Sounds like you're on BT Total Broadband Option 1. I never pay more than £7.50/month for that (I have to agree to a new 12 month contract every year but it's worth that).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I have it - I've had no probs.
  • If O2 try to sell you their Access package, do not go for it & choose another ISP
They limit your speed because of other customers who have high usage.
I know because it has happened to me.

O2 Access package is only for people who live in an area where your local telephone exchange hasnt been unbundled, meaning we have to route or service through BT's as opposed to owning the equipment ourselves.

Its usually customers in the countryside or slightly out of 'town' who may need this, but we will always tell you instore.
  • Thanks everyone!

I'm contacting BT this week to see if they can either match or better O2's offer. Somehow I doubt they will.

Heinz - That's very interesting... I think I am on Option 1 and I had to sign up for an 18 month contract!! I shall be telling them about your contract when I call them.
