Have a Samsung DVD recorder that keeps giving error messages when trying to load or record discs, have bought 3 different kinds of discs thinking they were the problem but now looks like it could be machine. Will record on -R discs only. Out of guarantee in May, but never been much good from start.Any suggestions as to whether problem is serious or not?

To A Nice Englishman. As I put it is a Samsung & yes it shoud record on -RW & DVD-Rams, but it will only successfully record on -R discs. It has recorded on the others whilst we have had it but it wont at the moment. If practice makes perfect, and nobody is perfect....................................

this should explain what firmware is:

Just wondering a couple of other things, what OS are you running, how much RAM is installed and is any being used for the graphics card, how big is your hard drive and what free space does it have and finally what software are you using to burn the CDs or DVDs. All these can be factors in probelms with burning discs but I agree with woo that it requires a firmware upgrade.Scottish proverb - "Never drink whisky with water and never drink water without whisky"0 -

Would it be worth trying a laser cleaning disc?

It is a stand alone DVD recorder that I am having problems with, nothing to do with computer, so don't think as OP says that firmaware is of any use. I am was just wondering if any bright spark out there had any ideas as to what could be the problem, and whether it is worth having it repaired. If practice makes perfect, and nobody is perfect....................................
