Uninstall AVG and see if Outlook then opens.
Equally, you can try re-booting your machine before you do uninstall AVG

Many thanks to John, I've just uninstalled it and got connected to email, but have tried to reinstall with same problem. I've used AVG before with no probs. I don't want to not have virus protection, so I'm a bit stuck at the mo. Am I doing something wrong?0

1. Could be a virus or spyware messing with the installation of AVG. you Might need to run an online virus scanner beforehand.
